Needs
New Building:
Our agency is in desperate need of a new building to operate from. Our current facility lacks working heat, floods regularly during heavy rains and we have multiple antiquated underground leaking pipes that force us to keep the water turned off to our greenhouses so we are unable to use them to grow food. Our food bank which has historically served more customers than any other in Kitsap County from more than two decades is a small old building with a roof that leaks during the rain, it lacks adequate storage, has a portable outdoor toilet and does not lend itself in any way to the dignity our clients so deserve when visiting. With the necessary legislative and foundational support along with generous donations from our community, this very much-needed facility will soon become a reality for us and for all of the clients we serve. We can't wait!
Building Update! Our agency was able to use our legislative funding to purchase a building in late February! It is a former restaurant located close in proximity to our current location. With approximately 8,400 square feet of floor space, it includes a commercial kitchen set-up. There is an abundance of parking and ample space for us to grow our programs and better serve our community. We are in the process of getting it cleaned and prepared for our eventual move later this summer. There is no kitchen equipment currently so replacing that and fixing the HVAC and roof are top priorities. The walk-in coolers and freezer on-site there also need some TLC. We would love your help as we work to create the building of our dreams over these next few years. We envision a much-expanded self-serve food bank market, hot meal programs and community events like resource fairs and clinics in our large community room. The potential is endless. We have A LOT of work ahead of us but we couldn't be more thrilled.
Food Donations:
We are always grateful to receive unexpired, non-perishable food donations to help stock our food bank shelves for our customers to choose when they are here shopping. Pasta sauce, cereals, rice, noodles and high protein items like peanut butter and canned tuna are always needed.
Volunteer Assistance:
We rely on volunteers to help operate our programs that help to serve the thousands of children, adults and seniors every month. Volunteers that are available weekdays between 11-5 to help in the food bank are critical to our operations. Please apply at our website if you are hardworking with some time to share!
