Our Mission:

West Sound Roller Derby (WSRD) empowers and inspires members of the community to be their authentic selves through roller derby, while providing a fun, athletic, compassionate, and safe space for all persons to thrive.

Who we are:

Beginning in January 2012 our league hit the ground running as Northwest Derby Company, with skaters who had the passion and experience to make this league successful from day one. Our league has many facets we focus on intently, but the primary ones are equality, sportsmanship, and democracy. We involve skaters of all skill levels, and value the contributions that each individual brings to the league. WSRD is a league that loves to have fun on and off the track, however, our league is our business and we take running it very seriously. We are passionate about our training and the development of smart gameplay, and are dedicated to playing derby at a competitive level. The success of this league is all due to our members' integrity, attention to detail, and drive. We love organization, we love hard work, and we are dedicated to always learning and bettering ourselves. Our programs nurture new recruits and invest time in the training of our team skaters. We strive to create and maintain an intentionally positive culture within our membership. We pride ourselves on behaving respectfully towards one another and to others outside of our league. WSRD is an entirely volunteer-ran non-profit organization. Our league members and volunteers are our backbone, and commit daily to advancing the functionality of the league through their elected and/or committee positions. Additionally, our fans and sponsors contribute greatly towards the success and profit of the league. WSRD is proud to continue to build strong and meaningful community relationships, showing everyone, no matter if you've skated or not, that you matter, you can make a difference, and you are appreciated.

In 2022, we rebranded as West Sound Roller Derby, and continue to deliver sport, entertainment, and a place of belonging within the community.

Our programs:

West Sound Roller Derby (WSRD), formerly Northwest Derby Company, operated out of Kitsap County's local roller rink, Skateland, until its closure in 2019. After the setbacks of losing a practice and game space, as well as the pandemic, WSRD found temporary practice spaces through partnerships with a local church and a community center. Since 2023, WSRD has practiced in the Sheep Barn, located at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, and has proudly hosted six home games at the Kitsap Sun Pavilion, through partnership with Kitsap County Parks. Our long-term goal is to find a more permanent practice and game space.

WSRD operates two main programs: our New Skater program teaches anyone about skating and the sport, and our Team plays roller derby competitively both nationally and abroad. We are members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). WFTDA is an international governing body of the sport, representing more than 400 member leagues on 6 continents. WFTDA sets the international standards for ranking, rules, and competition each year, and provides our league with guidance and resources for the sport (wftda.com).
