Charlie came to Washington State from San Antonio Texas at the approx. age of 6 months old.
He was adopted from a local shelter the same month that he arrived. His new humans were older with health issues and not prepared to live with and train a rambunctious puppy. Charlie was relinquished to KARE and put in a home to foster to adopt. But with the foster having a pup a couple months older it was not a good fit. So…Charlie came back to KARE. He was then adopted by a family that again was not prepared to handle a puppy and was left in a crate while the human worked all day. So…Charlie came back to KARE again, and was placed in a foster home with two other dogs and two young girls that knew how to train and work with him. He blossomed in their care.
Charlie had a great personality and everyone was his friend. He didn’t understand why he couldn’t find his forever home. He even asked Santa Claus if he could help him find a forever family.
While he was at his last foster home the girls worked with him and the family took him on outings to meet people and other dogs.
Finally, someone who had adopted a dog from KARE years before was looking for another pup to share her life with after her dog had passed away from old age. She met Charlie and fell in love.
He was adopted and has been living his best, happy life. He now comes to KARE for training and to play with other dogs. He also goes to doggie day care sometimes when his person has to be away from him for a few hours. Charlie got his wish finally for his very own forever home. Sometimes it takes a village. Congratulations to Charlie and his new Mama!

Mission
Kitsap Animal Rescue & Education (KARE) is a volunteer-powered, non-profit organization, based out of Kitsap County, whose mission is to provide animal welfare education as well as animal rescue/shelter support for the community. We provide classes, workshops, and seminars revolving around dog behavior, communication, and training, in the effort of reducing the number of homeless and relinquished pets in the area. We hope to share our mission while continuing to build our network of community partnerships.
This year we are fundraising for our Medical Grant and Educational Grant to assist our low-income neighbors with veterinary care and training for their pets. Our newest outreach program is called HOPE which stands for Housing Outreach Pet Education. HOPE is committed to providing affordable animal behavior education, training and essential pet resources for people and their pets, with a focus on those who are experiencing housing instability. HOPE works toward a community where people and their pets can live together and thrive. KARE is partnering with Kitsap housing organizations to assist with breaking down barriers for our community having housing issues because they have beloved pets.
Help us raise $20,000 this year!!
Needs
KARE is always looking for volunteer fosters to provide safe, loving homes for pets to stay while we find their forever home. Volunteers for outreach programs and extras for Therapy and Canine Good Citizen Evaluations are needed regularly. We love to help people intern whose goals are to become a certified dog trainer.
