Inflation has hit us hard as a non-profit. Due to our location, we do not qualify for state or city funding. We rely heavily on grants and donations. For those both who are familiar and not familiar with The HUB you may not know all that we do for our community. Here is a recap of what the HUB has accomplished last year.
At The HUB, we give away clothing and household goods to those in need. We also give to other agencies to help them further their mission. As of the end of November of last year we have given away over $81,000 in goods to members of the community. What does that look like? ...
Homeless people are now a little more comfortable in tents and sleeping bags, low income families are wearing new coats and shoes, local schools are giving away prizes to youth at carnivals and incentive stores, more than 100 life jackets were distributed to various location around our community, generations of people are reading free books thanks to the free library at The HUB, grandmothers and grandfathers are using canes and walkers, grab bars and other medical equipment, families are sitting on new furniture after being burned out by a house fire, new mothers have the equipment they need to raise a child in a safe environment, and so much more because of the generosity of the community in which we serve.
This year our Neighbors Helping Neighbors Program has served over 900 people with needs that range from a referral for a reliable caregiver, help paying their utility bills, lowering their taxes or helping with wood to heat their homes. We raised enough funds to repair a deck for a great grandmother so that she now can walk out of her home without fear of falling through to the floor. We gave away over 2600 pounds of food each month to low income seniors through our food commodity program, as well as served low or no cost meals to seniors throughout the year.
Did we do all of this alone? We are strong because of the community that supports us through financial gifts, donations to our store and the over 8,000 volunteer hours served, all given out “To Support Independent Living for Seniors and People with Disabilities”. This holiday season I invite you to give a gift that will give back all year. Join us in touching the life of a Neighbor in need. Be a part of the miracles that happen at The HUB every day.
We need dollars to support the medical lending library. It costs us about $20 per item to receive, sanitize, repair and relend it out. We do about 50 lend outs a month so we need roughly $12,000 a year for our library to stay functional and continue getting people hooked up with life changing equipment. In addition we supply people with about $2,500 worth of incontinence supplies a year. So altogether we would love to raise $3,500.
