Scarlet Road

A nonprofit organization

 Mission

Through holistic care Scarlet Road offers the hope of freedom to those who have been sexually exploited.

Our Story

Born out of the desire to see a way out for individuals in the sex industry, Scarlet Road set out to change social perspectives, help our community understand and serve victims of sexual exploitation, and provide long term support for our community that was receiving none.

Our founders first came together in 2008, hoping to create more awareness through hosting a Freedom 5K run. This quickly evolved into a true passion for serving the victims that were within our own reach and since the start of our outreach programs in 2009 we have been journeying with people leaving the commercial sex industry, and supporting them in the hard transition that they face.

We are dedicated to serving survivors.

"I wouldn't have known how to navigate any of this had it not been for Scarlet Road and how you guys held my hand through hard, confusing, and overwhelming times! I can now help others in my life as a result of your support!" - Ximena, Scarlet Road Graduate, 2021

Mission

Through holistic care, Scarlet Road offers the hope of freedom to those who have been sexually exploited.

Needs

Every day, people in our community are exploited or trafficked for sex: sold sexually for money or resources.

It is not glamorous.

It is not liberating.

It usually begins in childhood.

72% of the survivors Scarlet Road has served remember being sexually exploited as a child.

Pimps and exploiters often keep control over their victims through:

· Threats against the victim’s life or the lives of their loved ones

· Control of resources like food, money, and sleep

· Holding the legal documents or identification of the victim

· Promising lavish gifts and affection, while violently abusing

· Telling the victim that no one will hear and believe their story
