The Port Orchard Farmers Market (POFM) is Kitsap County's longest-running farmers market, established in 1978. We provide a community gathering space for vendors selling local farm goods, artisan crafts, and prepared foods. It's an honor to be the incubator site of several local businesses that had their start vending at the farmers market. In 2024, we welcome 41,000+ customers to the waterfront to celebrate locally grown food and handmade products. 123 small business vendors participated in last season, and shoppers invested $956,793 in purchases with those local businesses.
We have three part-time staff and a Board of Directors that actively works to keep the organization operating and growing. Our basic operating costs are covered by member/vendor fees, additional market programs and several special events are made possible thanks to the generosity of our community of supporters through grants, sponsorships, donations, and volunteerism.
Current programs and special events:
- Food Access! SNAP Market Match, supported by a grant, which doubles dollars to a certain amount increasing the amount of healthy produce that can be bought at POFM. Customers who use the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)/EBT benefits can stretch their food budget to buy more fruits and vegetables!
- The Power Of Produce (POP) Kids Club invites youth to participate in food and nutritional education activities every second Saturday during market season. Upon completion of the POP activity, kids receive $2 POP Carrot Coins to spend on produce within the market.
-
Music at the Market is our weekly showcase of local musicians playing live at the market.
- Events: Bark-It at the Market, Empty Bowls Soup Off (benefitting South Kitsap Helpline), Fall Fun Fest, Ride the Tide, Yoga at the Market, Community Musician Spotlight, National Farmers Market Week.
We look forward to bringing local food and artisan goods to the community for many years to come and appreciate your support in being able to expand upon our programs!
