Mission
We're improving the lives of cancer patients and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.
Description
Imagine hearing the words, "you have cancer," and trying to wrap your head around how those words will change your life. Your mind runs through everything from finances, family, treatment and question about whether research has caught up with your type of cancer. You are not alone. The American Cancer Society has been around for 100 years, and our mission is the elimination of cancer.
In Washington State, approximately 42,170 people will be diagnosed with cancer in 2021. For cancer patients, their lifesaving treatments often result in side effects and require chemotherapy and radiation that need to be done multiple times during the week and occur for countless weeks depending on the needs of the patient. As you might understand, getting to treatment with mild or severe side effects can be a barrier. This, combined with the large financial burden as a result of increased medical expenses, means that many patients need help with rides to their treatments.
