Mission
The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia -
by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
Description
The Alzheimer's Association Washington State Chapter provides care and support to people affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. We provide a variety of programs and services that inform and empower people living with the disease and those who care for them. A strong support system and better understanding of the disease can extend quality of life for the person with dementia and help maintain the health of caregivers. Our community programs provide education, help people develop support networks, and teach best practices for caregiving and stress management.
In Washington State, Alzheimer's disease is the third leading cause of death. More than 120,000 people live with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia and 353,000 people - primarily unpaid family members - serve as their caregivers. Alzheimer's is indiscriminate and affects people of all ages, races, socio-economic statuses, family history, and genders and it is not a natural part of aging. There is, as of yet, no cure, no way to slow the progression, and no treatment. To that end, the Alzheimer's Association is also the world's largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research.
