What is The Kitsap Great Give?

The Kitsap Great Give is a 24-hour, online giving event organized by the Kitsap Community Foundation to grow philanthropy in Kitsap County and surrounding areas (e.g., Belfair and Gig Harbor). Kitsap Community Foundation is thankful for the assistance of our Presenting Partner, the United Way of Kitsap County, in creating this community event.

How Does the Great Give Work?

It's pretty simple:

1. For 24 hours on May 2, you can review the profiles of over 200 local nonprofit organizations on this website

2. Donate to as many of them as you'd like

3. Help our community reach the goal of raising $1.5 Million for charity in one day!

The best part is that every dollar you donate will be proportionally matched by the event sponsors so that the nonprofits you donate to will actually get more money than you donate! You $100 donation could become $120 or more actually going to the nonprofit. Your donations can also help the nonprofits win extra donation prizes throughout the day.


Why should I give on May 2 throughwww.kitsapgreatgive.org?

Your gift made through the Kitsap Great Give website during that 24 hours will be magnified by bonus funds. Your gift will also help participating nonprofits qualify for prizes that will be offered during the event. The prizes that will be offered are listed on our prize page.

We encourage you to support your local nonprofits with year-round giving, but we are creating a special event on May 2. It's our day to celebrate Kitsap's spirit of generosity and support the work of our community's nonprofits.


Is there a minimum or maximum donation?

The minimum donation amount is $10. There is no maximum donation. But only donations of $10,000 and below will receive a portion of the bonus funds. All gifts made on www.kitsapgreatgive.org are non-refundable.

Can I give to more than one organization?

YES! You may make donations to as many participating organizations as you'd like in a "shopping cart" type of experience and "check out" with a single transaction. There is a limit of 10 nonprofits using the "Multi-Give" function. Only the nonprofits registered on www.kitsapgreatgive.org may receive gifts during this event.


Can I Donate to All of my Favorite Nonprofits in One Transaction?

Yes, you can. There are two ways to give on this website:

1. Donate to multiple nonprofits with one transaction.

a. List all of the nonprofits you want to donate to and the amounts of your donations and to just "check out" with your credit card one time. You'll make all of your donations in one transaction and only need to enter your credit card information one time. This is the "multi-give" form on the home page (this link will be active on May 2 by clicking on the "Home" link at the top).

b. Here's how it works:

            •  Write in the name of the nonprofit you want and the amount of your donation on the top line

            •  Click on the "+ new gift" button and you'll see a new donation line appear

            •  Fill in the name of the next nonprofit you want to donate to and the amount

            •  Click on the "+ new gift" button

            •  Keep doing that until you've listed all of your donations (up to 10 nonprofits)

            •  Then fill in your personal information and click "Submit"

            •  You will receive an individual receipt for each nonprofit you donate to on May 2

2. Donate to each nonprofit individually. On each nonprofit's profile page, you can make a donation to just that nonprofit. If you chose this method of donating, you'll need to enter your personal information each time you donate.

How much of my donation goes to the nonprofit?

The vendor fees are 4.88% - 6.04% plus $0.30. Specifically, there is a 2.99% processing fee from our online platform provider, Kimbia, and credit card processing fees ranging from 1.89% to 3.05% (depending on what type of credit or debit card you use) plus 30 cents per transaction. Kitsap Community Foundation does not receive any portion of the transaction fees.

Your donation will receive a pro-rated match from our local bonus pool and a pro-rated match from Give Local America's national incentive pool. Together, these two matches could increase each donation by 10% to 25%.

In summary, if you donate $100 through the Kitsap Great Give on May 2, 2017, (A) $5.18 to $6.35 will be lost to transaction fees, but (B) $10 to $25 may be added to your donation by the incentive pools, which means that (C) your donation may result in $104.82 to $119.82 going to the nonprofits that you designated. The bottom line is that your donation will be magnified and the nonprofits you designate will receive more funding than you actually donated.


Does the Kitsap Community Foundation receive any portion of the donations?

NO! The Kitsap Community Foundation does not receive any of the processing fee or the credit card processing fee. Kitsap Community Foundation will take part as a participating nonprofit so that you may make a donation to the Kitsap Community Foundation if you would like.


What will this website do?

Kitsap Community Foundation created this online platform at www.kitsapgreatgive.org with searchable profiles of participating nonprofits and a leaderboard on the day of the event. All donations will be processed through this website. Nonprofits and donors can track fundraising totals throughout the day. Anyone can donate to their favorite nonprofits on May 2, 2017, from midnight to midnight via www.kitsapgreatgive.org.

When will The Kitsap Great Give take place?

The Kitsap Great Give is a 24-hour giving event on May 2, 2017, from midnight to midnight. All event-related donations must be made at www.kitsapgreatgive.org during that 24-hour period.


Who created The Kitsap Great Give?

The Kitsap Community Foundation ("KCF") organized the event and created the online giving platform at www.kitsapgreatgive.org. The Foundation's mission is to grow philanthropy in Kitsap County by connecting people who care with causes that matter. A core program of KCF is building an endowment of funds that will give income to Kitsap County nonprofit organizations forever. KCF worked with local foundations, donors, and corporations, including our Presenting Partner, the United Way of Kitsap County, to secure matching funds and prize money. Is May 2, 2017, also a national day of giving?

Yes, it is. A national effort, called Give Local America, is working to have as many local community foundations (such as Kitsap Community Foundation) host giving days (such as the Kitsap Great Give) on May 2, 2017, as possible. Give Local America is working to create a large national incentive pool that will provide an additional pro-rated match to all local giving days, including the Kitsap Great Give. This means that donations made through the Kitsap Great Give will be increased both by the Kitsap Great Give bonus pool and the Give Local America bonus pool.

What is the bonus pool and prize structure?

Bonus Pool:

The bonus pool is comprised of money from two sources, local matching funds and national matching funds.

Local Matching Funds:

Kitsap Community Foundation is working to secure funds for a bonus pool and prize money from several community partners, including our Presenting Partner, the United Way of Kitsap County.

The bonus pool will be shared by all participating nonprofits that receive donations during the Kitsap Great Give. In 2016, we raised over $150,000 in matching funds (our bonus pool) which was proportionally shared among participating nonprofits.

·  The exact amount of the bonus pool received by each nonprofit will be based on each organization's overall percentage of funds raised the day of the event.

·  If an organization receives 3% of the total funds raised on May 2, that organization will receive 3% of the bonus funds.

·  Donations will qualify for the match up to a $10,000 limit to prevent substantial donations from skewing the allocation of matching funds.

Who can make a donation during the Kitsap Great Give?

Anyone with a credit or debit card can make a donation to a nonprofit that has a profile on www.kitsapgreatgive.org on May 2, 2017. You do not have to have a Kitsap Community Foundation account or live in the Kitsap area to donate.


How can I make a donation?

On May 2, starting at midnight and for the next 24 hours, go to www.kitsapgreatgive.org and use your credit or debit card to donate to as many nonprofits is listed on the website as you'd like. You can search for a nonprofit by name or by service area. Participating nonprofits will have a donation page on www.kitsapgreatgive.org where you can choose the amount you want to donate, from $10 on up. It is possible that some nonprofits will have added the authorized www.kitsapgreatgive.org donation form to their own websites to give you another place to give during the Kitsap Great Give. These forms will carry the Kitsap Great Give logo.

Starting 2 weeks before May 2, you can also preschedule your donation so that it will automatically be charged to your credit card on May 2, without you having to do a thing.


Will you accept any "offline" donations?

"Offline" donations can be made by check, but they must be made payable to Kitsap Community Foundation, include a clear indication of which nonprofit(s) the donation is for, and be received in our office by noon on Tuesday, May 2. Donations will still be directed to the nonprofit of your choice. The 5 - 6% service fee will still be charged. Minimum donation for offline donations is $250. Offline donations will not be eligible for all prizes, but will still be eligible for the Bonus Pool.


Is my gift tax deductible?

Donations made through the Kitsap Great Give are 100% tax deductible. You will immediately receive an email confirming the deduction from the Kitsap Community Foundation. Please save this email for your records. By selecting a specific charity to receive your donation, your gift is restricted for that charity and will not be given to any other charity. You cannot designate your donation for a specific program at a nonprofit although a participating nonprofit is free to indicate that it will use donations made that day for a specific purpose.

What organizations are participating in The Kitsap Great Give?

All organizations participating will be 501(c)(3) public charities in compliance with IRS 990 requirements (KCF will verify), and all will have registered and received training on how to participate in the Kitsap Great Give.

Over 200 nonprofit organizations that are located in or provide substantial services in Kitsap County or immediately-surrounding areas (Belfair, Gig Harbor) are participating.


Can I give to more than one organization?

Nonprofits were required to create their profiles by March 15th. If your favorite nonprofit does not have a profile on the Kitsap Great Give site, then you cannot use www.kitsapgreatgive.org to donate to them.

Can I make a donation using my phone?

Yes. Our technology provider has a "mobile optimized platform" that will make it easy to make a gift on www.kitsapgreatgive.org using your smart phone.


Is my gift safe and secure?

Yes. The www.kitsapgreatgive.org website is powered by Kimbia, and is a secure PCI-Level 1 compliant site for donating to your favorite charities. You can be sure your personal information is protected when you donate through our www.kitsapgreatgive.org Kimbia platform. Please feel free to review Kimbia's Privacy Policy. Kitsap Community Foundation will never share your contact or other private information with anyone or any organization other than an organization that you have donated to through Kitsap Great Give (unless you choose to have your donation remain anonymous).


Beyond a donation, how can I support my favorite nonprofit on this day?

After you have made your donation, you can spread the word among your own friends and networks about the Kitsap Great Give and the good work nonprofits do in our community. Your favorite nonprofit may also have an online media campaign or other ideas to promote the day.

I have a donor advised fund at the Kitsap Community Foundation. Can I use it for the Kitsap Great Give?

Yes, but donations using a Kitsap Community Foundation donor advised fund must be submitted by April 25, 2017. Donations made via a KCF donor advised fund will not be subject to the 3% credit card processing fee or the 2.99% Kimbia processing fee.


How will I be recognized as a donor?

You will receive an immediate thank you and your tax receipt from the Kitsap Community Foundation. Your receipt will indicate which nonprofit your donation will be directed toward. If you use the multi-give form, you will receive a receipt for each nonprofit that receives a donation from you. Your chosen nonprofits will thank you as well to let you know how your donation will make a difference. You can choose to make an anonymous donation if you prefer. Anonymous donors will receive a tax receipt, but will not receive a thank you from the nonprofit organization to which they contributed.


Does it cost anything to give on www.kitsapgreatgive.org?

There is no fee to you as a donor. You will receive an immediate thank you and tax receipt for 100% of your donation. There are standard credit card and management fees associated with the Kimbia platform. They will be withheld from the final disbursement to nonprofit organizations. However, the incentive pool pro-rated matches are expected to more than offset the transaction fees.

A mailing address in Kitsap County or an immediately-surrounding area will be sufficient evidence that a nonprofit provides "substantial services" in Kitsap County or immediately-surrounding areas.  For those nonprofit organizations that do not have a mailing address in Kitsap County or an immediately-surrounding area, Kitsap Community Foundation will make a case-by-case determination regarding whether or not the nonprofit provides "substantial services" and qualifies for the Kitsap Great Give.  If your nonprofit is not based in Kitsap County, please be sure to explain how you qualify to participate in the Kitsap Great Give when you register your nonprofit.

Funds raised through the Kitsap Great Give are to be used for services in Kitsap County or an immediately-surrounding area.  An eligible organization may have one profile on the Kitsap Great Give site.  A nonprofit's organizational description can be generic or can indicate that funds raised through the Kitsap Great Give will be used for one or more specific purposes that fulfill the nonprofit's exempt purpose.

Why should my organization participate?

A better question is "why wouldn't a nonprofit organization participate?"  Participation in the Kitsap Great Give is free.  It's a tool, and like any tool, it's as effective as you want to make it.  A nonprofit can invest as little or as much time, energy, and resources in promoting the event to its supporters and potential supports as it wants.  The more the nonprofit invests, the more return it will see through the Kitsap Great Give.  But even if a nonprofit invests nothing, it will probably still receive some funding through the Great Give.

Additionally, the Kitsap Great Give is your opportunity to:

·   raise awareness about your organization

·   grow your donations and receive bonus funds

·    reach new donors

·    build your online fundraising skills

Your organization is also eligible to receive bonus funds and prizes during the event. There's really no reason to not participate.

What is required for organizations to participate?  Is there a fee?

There is no fee for your organization to participate and your organization will not be required to devote any energy to the event.  However, your organization will be much more successful it does devote time and energy to promoting the Kitsap Great Give amongst its own donors and social networks.  The Kitsap Community Foundation will provide a toolkit and training to participating organizations to help them promote the event and raise funds that day.


How much of the donations go to my organization?

4.88% - 6.04% plus $0.30.  Specifically, there is a 2.99% processing fee from our online platform provider, Kimbia, and credit card processing fees ranging from 1.89% to 3.05% (depending on what type of credit or debit card you use) plus 30 cents per transaction.   Kitsap Community Foundation does not receive any portion of the transaction fees.

All donations will receive a pro-rated match from our local incentive pool and a pro-rated match from Give Local America's national incentive pool. Together, these two matches could increase each donation by 20% to 35%.

In summary, if a donor donates $100 through the Kitsap Great Give to your organization on May 2, 2017, (A) $5.18 to $6.34 will be lost to transaction fees, but (B) $10 to $25 may be added to the donation by the incentive pools, which means that (C) the donation may result in $104.82 to $119.82 going to your organization. The bottomline is that the donation will be magnified and will result in more funding to your nonprofit than the donor actually donated.

How will each nonprofit's share of the matching funds be calculated?

At the completion of the Kitsap Great Give, KCF will determine each nonprofit's proportionate share of the matching funds by dividing the total amount each charity raised by the total amount of donations to all participating nonprofits. This amount will then be multiplied by the total amount of dollars in the incentive pool.

How can I help make the day a success for my organization and our community?

Once you have set up your organization profile at www.kitsapgreatgive.org and have been approved to participate, you will receive a toolkit with a timeline for making the day a success for your organization and you will be eligible to participate in free trainings that the Foundation will sponsor.  If you are not currently on social media, set up accounts for your organization now.  Also, have fun on May 2. This is a new event in our community and your creativity and energy will help make it a success!

 

Can my organization host a special event?

Yes!  We encourage you to plan an event, partner with other participating nonprofits, or connect with a local business to raise awareness about the Kitsap Great Give on May 2.  The more you do to promote your participation in the Kitsap Great Give, the more your organization will benefit.

Can we encourage donations by giving away prizes or free gifts?

All donations made during the Kitsap Great Give must be 100% tax deductible.  You cannot offer a premium for donations made during the event. The fair market value of all of the benefits received in connection with the payment may not be more than 2% of the payment or $50, whichever is less. Or, the payment is $25 or more and the only benefits received in connection with the payment are token items (bookmarks, calendars, key chains, mugs, posters, tee shirts, etc.) bearing the organizations name or logo. In other words, you must follow the IRS rules for Quid Pro Quo contributions, which can be found here.


When will my organization receive its Kitsap Great Give donations?

You will receive all donations, matching funds, and prize money in a single disbursement by June 15, 2017.  All disbursements will be made by check.

 

What if the amount my nonprofit expected based on the initial Kitsap Great Give results does not match the final disbursement?

Although each nonprofit will be able to see their gifts in real time, please be aware that reconciliation must be completed and, even though gifts are considered nonrefundable, a donation can be revoked for a variety of reasons from the time of receipt to the time of disbursement.  Therefore, donation "reports" cannot be considered final until the nonprofit receives the disbursement from Kitsap Community Foundation.

Does my organization need to send letters for their tax deductions?

No. The donor will immediately receive an email confirming the gift receipt from Kitsap Community Foundation during the event.  Note that all donations must be 100% tax deductible (no additional benefits). But we would encourage you to acknowledge donations by following-up with donors and letting them know what you will do with their donation.


Will my organization receive donor information for acknowledgments?

Yes.  You will have access to donor information.  We will provide you with the contact information for all donors to your organization and the amount they donated unless they ask to remain anonymous.  We also encourage you to reach out to your donors after the event and thank them for supporting them your organization.
