Martin, one of our nation's proud veterans, went to work as a maintenance person for senior living facilities after he retired from the army. His wife of 50 years passed away recently and both of his sons, who lived out of state, were worried about Martin. Martin wanted to stay at home but "just no longer felt like eating." After he was hospitalized for dehydration, his sons found out he had stopped eating and drinking water all together. Martin doesn't get many visitors and had been quite lonely before receiving Meals on Wheels. Now Martin receives visits multiple times a week along with warm, nutritious meals delivered from his friendly Meals on Wheels delivery volunteer. Martin is quite healthy now, and his sons are relieved that their father get regular checks from friendly visitors along with meals.
Participating in the Kitsap Great Give provides us with an opportunity to promote the work that we do in the community to a new group of donors and to leverage the support of those donors to further our mission to improve the lives of adults as they age.
